This is about High School Students and doing Community Service hours as part of there requirement for graduation from school.
This is something that has been implemented into the Seattle School District, where the high school that my children go to is located at. We were advised that as of January of this year it is now part of the academic plan for high school and needed to have completed 60 hours before completed the 12th grade or would not graduate. In fact for my son he was told that he needed to be signed up and show proof of this as well as have 15 of the 60 credits completed prior to the end of his first semester or it could cause him to have a lower grade in his class. Per the teacher was to teach them responsibility and not showing them how to plan things out and not wait till the last moment. I have gone out to the web site for the school and did discover that it is now part of the plan to have to do community service hours. Also did some research on the thoughts of the experts out there on the meaning and results from them doing community service hours. I think you will be as impressed as I was in what I found there are many different opinion of the positive and negative sides to this subject. Thru mostly the negative ones where not really have a lot of true value to them as most were a expression on it, such as wasn’t this what you did when you got in trouble with the law and wasn’t this treating them like slaves and giving the choice to do it or not. This was on a debating site that did give a clear email address to present here. While it true that now that it has been implemented into the school district regiment for getting your diploma it is per what I saw on the other areas a true valuable teaching tool for the children to have.
On the web site; www.browardschools.com/schools/service_learning.htm showing some of the other schools out there and that this is learning tool that teaches them skills of civil participation and develops an ethic of service and civil responsibility. And on a great site called www.lkwdpl.org/cffr/schlsumm.htm , they also had a lot of debating going on regarding the pro and cons of implementing this into the school system. Discussing all the good and as well as touching on the subject of what some people thought regarding this as a negative thing. There was also a site called www.learnandserve.gov/about/programs/schools_based.asp which has some statements and opinions from some high school students themselves expressing their thoughts on the matter as well as the experts in the field. Now thru we were not to really use it under the site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/community_services there was something written that was pretty great, it talked from the heart and soul of incorporating high school students and community hours together. All in all the experts to mostly agree that this is a great thing to have been implemented into the program for the kids. It really teaches them citizenship, values even more, responsibility, sharing and reaching out to others and not being as self centered as some kids have been and more aware of the needs of others around you. It also as my daughter who is a brand new high school student along with her brother, it helps build character and your self confidence and helps us to give back to the community as well as maybe shorten the list of the potential drop outs down the road. Also it helps to bring students, teachers and parents closer together. And I think it satisfies a need to fill some of the emptiness that some students feel in their lives and that help to have more self esteem in their selves and make them a better person as well as a better student.
In conclusion there was many different view on this matter, and thru some thought badly and some thought good about it all in all the main point I think was about this was that the saying that I saw on many of the sites was: Setting the Standard, Measuring the Results, and we will be celebrating the Success of Our Students as they stride to meet and beat the that standard. Because by the encouragement that we have given them and they are getting from this doing the community service hours as well as the confident and pride in what they do, they will go far in life and be successful in anything they do now and in the adult world they are entering into.

High School Students and Community Service Hours

“The Meaning and Value of Them”

I have been looking at some articles about something that has started this year in the Seattle School district where my children go to high school. It involves them having to complete 60 hours of community service before the completion of the 12th grade in order to graduate. It seems that this is a new requirement that has been implemented into the Seattle School district starting this year. I had not be aware of this happening prior to the kids starting the 9th grade this past September, and they had come home from school with a form that needed to be completed and advised me at the time that they needed to try to locate someplace to do community hours. And in my son’s case he was told by his teacher that he needed to be in rolled and actively working on it and have at least 15 hours completed before the end of the semester or it could affect his grade in that class.
I was a little surprise to hear about this, I seem to remember someone telling me that their daughter had to do something like this and she was in high school at the time. So, I went out to the school board site on the web and researched into it and found that this was true in fact and was a requirement in order to complete high school but, it had said needed to be done by end of the 12th grade not the first semester or even first year. So, I called and talked to the teacher and asked why he had done it this way when even the school district allowed them time to do it. He stated that he knew kids to keep putting it off till tomorrow, and we all know tomorrow may never come or it’s rushed at the end. Which was while was true for some, not always so for the rest.
And when you go out online and see some of the reviews on it as well as the discussions out there on the pros and cons on the subject, I think you will be as impressed as I was. Thru there are some negative comments on a debating site about community hours to what you do as part of your sentence when you go to court. And it was making them out to be slaves for having to do this, stating that volunteering is not the same as required so thus they are being treated as slaves with out any choice in the matter and there were also some positive ones as well. There is also another item located on a site called Helium.com where there are a statement written by a high school student on this very item I am talking about, stating that maybe if kids had to do this prior in order to receive their diploma it would help to prepare them for the future. It would provide them with training and encouragement and maybe make fewer criminals in the world. Also, I should mention that there were about three other sites that I located with lots of great information about the positive and negative reviews on the subject there as well. One on a place called www.lkwdpl.org/cffr/schlsumm.ht and was involving Committee for the 4th R-Community Service by High School Students. It had some great points about both sides. And there also sees to be some good points as well on another site I located that is called http://www.learnandserve.gov/about/programs/schools_based.asp, which tells you about later when you go to college and that having done community service can later help in it. As it would also as my teenage daughter told me the other night when we were talking about this “Mom I think it builds character and helps you to learn to believe in yourself and others.” And even thru we were not to really use the Wikipedia as a example, I did find some great info under there at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Community_service that really talks from the heart about it being good to incorporate community services and high school together and that many students feel obligated to complete community service to advance their college resume.
People can go either way in their thoughts on Community Service hours and their High School Students as there is a range of reasons in that regard, for some serving your community is an altruistic act, for others it is a punishment or even sometimes to make friends. For myself and my family, we feel that it’s a great thing that been added as a requirement for graduation just like knowing how to read and write are. We feel that by Setting the Standard, Measuring Results, we will be celebrating the Success of our students as they stride to meet and beat that standard. Because as we encouraged them and they feel confident in themselves and have pride in what they do, they will go far in life and be successful in the adult world that they are entering into.

Writing Process Essay

There are a few different types and styles of writing processes. Most of the general ones are sometimes a two-part step and stage style and are as follows. The first type is a five-step process: where you do your prewriting, thinking or better known as brainstorming your thoughts out and jotting them down in quick sentences, or paragraphs. Figure out what or whom you want as a topic or subject idea to write about. Then what plot or location setting you want as well and also who will be in it. The next step will be the main writing it all down and taking all your sentences, ideas and such and putting them into paragraph form and making what is better known as your first of many rough drafts. Next you do what is known as editing or revising, where you do the first editing on it for spelling and grammar errors. Where you also can have someone take a look at it as well, using a fresh pair of eyes to check it over also for any error or such that you might have missed. Then you yourself do another edit called proof reading it, where you are again review it one last time for any additional errors/surface errors. Then the most important and final step in the process is where you publish it, taking your final draft and copy it to either paper or the computer depending on how you are posting it and your are done. There is a different style of writing process steps called writing worksheet/stage form:1.) Brainstorming (as mention above)2.) Introduction: Thesis development-How you are starting it.3.) Body paragraphs: Topic, Sentences and forms/format you will put them into.4.) Conclusion: Bringing it all together into a complete package.5.) Editing/Revising: Checking it many times, for any and all mistakes/spelling, grammar etc.

Writing Philosophy Essay

It is communicating information and ideas to one another, which involves three main parts: Thinking, Writing, and Speaking. It is a basic fact that there are many different forms of content that will require different types of writing. If you’re trying to convey straight forward information, its best to keep it short and simple coming straight to the point. And if your trying to communicating complex ideas, you will need to take more of your time and space and present more fuller detail information. And as such if communicating ideas rather than information, your writing should be concise and organized as it will make it more serious and prĂ©cised and give people a reason to want to read it. And when writing information, make sure its usable as its meant to be used and same goes for making it readable, so that it can read by those reading it and will be understandable to them.
Writing is a very important part of our daily lives, as well as such is also an important part of our education.
And we need it to be successful in life as writing can create knowledge and reasons are often found in writing. We write often write about what we know already, but we also produce knowledge as we write. As not only do we write down our thoughts, we also discover what we think as we write. I have come to observe some people saying “ I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I have to say.” And others have said, I really write to find out what I know about something and what is to known about something. I have also notice that I also sometimes have done both of these. Which is why in away Writing is a Philosophy in its own way; they are both about critical thinking, thoughtful analysis of things and writing them down. And as such documenting
It. Which inclusion is why writing is something important to all as it’s a important tool for gaining knowledge.
